  • Distinguishing characteristics:  Olive back, bluish sides with yellow stripes and five to six vertical bars on side. Silvery with yellow fins and dark spots on the shoulder

 

In the Wild

  • Habitat:  Waters of the Gulf between 30 and 50ft deep.
  • Diet:  Crabs, clams, crayfish, snails, minnows, frogs, larva, insects, and leeches
  • Predators:
  • Size:  4.5 inches
  • Breeding: 7,000 to 90,000 eggs
  • Life Span:  9 to 10 years
